Johnny's World Travels: England
This is London.
One of the Major European Cities!.The wonderful thing about London is it's diverse culture. As you can see in my photos of 1995, the City gets it's share of cloudy and misty days !!!
The Tower of London
Founded nearly a millennium ago and expanded upon over the centuries since, the Tower of London has protected, housed, imprisoned and been for many the last sight they saw on Earth.
It has been the seat of British government and the living quarters of monarchs ... the site of renown political intrigue, and the repository of the Crown Jewels ... It has housed lions, bears, and (to this day) flightless ravens ... not to mention notorious traitors and framed members of court, lords and ministers, clergymen and knights.
The Tower of London is by far one of the most famous and well preserved historical buildings in the world. From its earliest structural beginnings by its founder William I of England better known as William the Conqueror 1066-87, the Great Tower or White Tower as it later came to be called was fast becoming the most talked-about building in England. The White Tower was also the most awe inspiring, and frightening structure to the Anglo-Saxon people who were trying to get used to the rule of their new Norman king, the destroyer of their own ruler, Harold II, at the in 1066.
The absolute value of all the gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds and pearls in the royal collection is way beyond comprehension. Added to the fact that the crowns and other artefacts have all been worn and used by kings and queens of England makes one quick to realise that they, without question stand alone in their pricelessness. Although the world boasts some incredible treasures, suffice to say there is absolutely nothing that compares with the British Crown Jewels.
Perhaps one of the most frequently asked questions by visitors to the Tower of London is whether there have ever been attempts to steal this incredible collection of Royal treasures. Well, although it would be virtually impossible to orchestrate such a thing today there was a time long ago when security standards at the Tower were not exactly at their highest point. One man in particular who realised this very nearly made the unthinkable a reality, his name; Thomas Blood.
Tower Bridge
has stood over the River Thames in London since 1894 and is one of the finest, most recognisable bridges in the World.
At the Tower Bridge Exhibition you can enjoy breath-taking views from the high-level Walkways and learn about the history of the Bridge and how it was built. You can then visit the Victorian Engine Rooms, home to the original steam engines that used to power the Bridge lifts.
Tower Bridge Walkways have specially designed windows, giving visitors a unique opportunity to take photos of the views without them being obscured by glass.
Tower Bridge also houses three exquisite, stunning and unique venues, which are ideal for all styles of Corporate Hospitality and Private events, including Weddings and commitment ceremonies.
